Strong Start

Strong Start equips high school seniors in Polk County with essential knowledge about workplace safety, injury prevention, and physical well-being. Through hands-on workshops and real-life demonstrations, the program helps teens build lifelong habits that protect their health as they enter the workforce.

About the project
Vision

A generation of young workers in Polk County who value and apply occupational safety practices from day one on the job.

Target Population

The program serves high school seniors in Polk County, particularly those preparing for manual labor or service-related jobs. It also benefits local employers, vocational instructors, and families by promoting safer work practices and better long-term health awareness.

Expected Outcomes

The program increases awareness of workplace injury risks among high school seniors and reduces the likelihood of early job-related injuries and physical strain. Participants develop better posture, lifting techniques, and self-care habits that support lifelong health. By earning a Certificate of Occupational Health Awareness, students also gain a valuable addition to their resumes — often sparking meaningful conversations with employers.

Preparing teens for safe, healthy careers.
